Watts For Breakfast – December 2019
If you’re trying to organize an aviation event, the weather can ever so easily make or break you. And the forecast for the final event on the airfield’s calendar, Watts for Breakfast?? in December did not offer great encouragement. Temperatures in the high 30’s, a 90% chance of rain by early afternoon, probably by way of a thunderstorm and already 30+ knots blowing on both the north and south coasts. That’s enough to deter many a pilot, especially of lighter aircraft be it recreational or vintage general aviation.
So it was no great surprise that the numbers were down on previous breakfasts and that the attendance was clearly skewed towards heavier general aviation aircraft and a smattering of warbirds. But here’s the thing, it never ceases to amaze just how many aircraft are out there! Many, perhaps the majority of the aircraft on the flight line, had never been to a breakfast before. How special is it that right there, parked side by side, was a Cessna C170A, a C180 and a C190?? You’re just not going to see that every day.
So in summary: The December 2019 Watts for Breakfast?? was a real success with 15 aircraft on the flight line, many for the first time and just as importantly, 50+ meals served. As always, a big vote of thanks must go to all the volunteers who generously gave up their Sunday morning to make it all happen.
Stay tuned for more Watts for Breakfasts?? in 2020!!
