The chalet and hangar are steel framed and clad with colorbond steel. (No problems with termites.)
Built in the year 2000 by local builder Kevin Werner, very well known on the airfield for his other constructions of high-quality airchalets and hangars. He built it from a steel kit supplied by Caboolture Garages, a company also renowned for its high-quality buildings.
The chalet is stand-alone from the hangar and is separated by a 5 meter shade cloth covered breezeway, of 8 meters height. The breezeway has 12 meters of usable length as the undercover 8,000 gallon water tank occupies 3 meters. Water to facilities is supplied by a pressure pump from this tank. The hot water system and pump are located inside the hangar.
There is plenty of room to park a large van in the breezeway, as can be seen in the photos.
The chalet has 3 bedrooms with built-in wardrobes. There is an air-conditioned open plan lounge, dining and kitchen area. The floors are cork tiled. The wet areas, bathroom, toilet and laundry have white
ceramic tiles. Two bedrooms have ceiling fans and the smaller room has a wall-mounted TV. Currently used as a sewing room. The second bedroom is furnished with double/single bunks which brings the top bunk too close to the ceiling for a ceiling fan to be safely installed, so it has a standard floor fan instead.
The one meter wide hedge gardens are within the lease boundaries and the extra meter used by the gardens could be utilised for possible future extension of the patio, if so desired.
All windows have security grills and windows exposed to the sun have
shade cloth screens to reduce heat load in the chalet. The kitchen and bedroom windows facing the breezeway have fly screens. There is a full width 2 meter wide screened patio with shade cloth screens, outdoor furniture setting and BBQ.
This is the only 3 bedroom stand-alone chalet approved by the Somerset Council. Obvious advantages of this configuration are no unpleasant ‘hangar smells’ permeating the residence and no rattling hangar door sounds during the night. It is a one-of-a-kind chalet and well worth considering. (Designed by my wife who wanted the residence well separated from the hangar.)
Solar panels are installed on the hangar roof.
The hangar is 12 meters wide and 15 meters deep, with 11.3 meters door opening and 3 meters high. Four sliding doors on the front, with a vehicle access roller door at the back which is 3 meters wide and 3 meters high. There is a personnel access door leading from the breezeway into the hangar and the back door of the chalet is also accessed from the breezeway.
Facilities in the hangar are workbenches, steel shelving and lockable
A new 60 year lease is on offer by the Board of Management, which makes this a wonderful investment for future generations.
Selling on a walk-in walk-out basis, fully furnished.
Inspection by appointment.
Reason for sale: Deteriorating health and without family members who have aviation interests, the unhappy decision has been taken to place our airchalet on the market.
