QFES Training – July 2021
The Queensland Fire and Emergency Service held their annual training weekend at Watts Bridge. Saturday July 17th presented extremely challenging weather conditions with winds gusting to 35 knots at times. The volunteer firefighters certainly got a taste of what it could be like to be on active duty in less than ideal conditions. The helicopter was certainly kept busy all day conducting familiarisation flights for everyone involved.
Come a new day and Sunday was certainly much more benign, still windy but without the ferocious gusts of the prior day. Fixed wing aircraft were loaded with water and then conducted simulated fire-bombing passes on the main runway.
Watts Bridge Memorial Airfield is proud to be associated with the QFES training, ensuring that in the case of a real emergancy the volunteeer forces will be adequately trained for the situation at hand.
