Qantas Family Flying Day
About 100 Brisbane pilots and their families were hosted by the Queensland Warbirds and Vintage Aircraft Association at Watts Bridge Memorial Airfield for a picnic and family flying day on Sunday 13th September.
The picnic gave the opportunity for Brisbane pilots next of kin to fly in a variety of aircraft, flown mainly by Qantas pilots, to include a Twin Commanche, Cessna 180, Yak 52, RV 6, Yak 18, or a classic Wirraway. Of the visitors, 63 elected to fly, with the more daring of the group flying aerobatic sequences in the Yak 52 and Wirraway.
The QarNuts also displayed some splendid classic cars after the picturesque drive through the Brisbane Valley. The picnic was a great opportunity for our Brisbane crew families to catch up at an outdoor event that would have captured the imagination of some budding pilots.
Thanks go to QWVAA for hosting the event, Captain John Yates, Captain David Evans, FO Shane Tobin, Captain Ross Parker (retd), Capt Phil Brooks (Retd) and Captain Richard Waugh.
