Watts For Breakfast – 02.2022
It was a grey gloomy morning. A low cloud base with the occasional shower crossing the runways. Not a great start for the first Watts For Breakfast?? of 2022. The first arrivals were local aircraft, taxying from hangars on the airfield. Proceedings were off to a slow but steady start.
The BBQ’s were already busy however, with more folks than usual electing to drive in. As the overcast started to clear, activity in the aircraft parking bay picked up as pilots and navigators winged their way to breakfast. And then the mighty roar of two Rolls Royce Merlin engines fulfilled everyone’s expectations with the arrival of the Mk XV1 Spitfire and the P-51D Mustang! A special parking area right beside the shelter shed had been set aside especially for these iconic aircraft so that everyone could get a good close look at them. A little later a North American Aviation T-28 Trojan completed the trio of warbirds. Let’s face it….. It’s not everyday that you can see up-close such aircraft on the same airfield on the same day. Overall it ended up being a most successful morning with approximately 50 aircraft making the trek.
