Hello Everyone,

Good going with the weather station.
The system has now been live on the Watts Website for almost a month with no problems.

In the background there has been good progress with the flagpole and its supporting structure.
Today we dug the hole for the footings, with concrete to be poured tomorrow. The assistance of Peter and David Ratcliffe and also Nick Potter was greatly appreciated.

Here's a few photo's ......

Following on from the previous post .....
The support / pivot structure for the weather station mast was concreted into position today.
Hopefully next weekend we will get the mast into position so that the network cabling can commence.

Great work Gents. This project looks like it will be finalised in the coming weeks, particuarly looking forward to seeing the camera feed.

Richard, I am curious to know if any third party Apple or Android App's can access the data?

Hi All and James,

Should see good progress over the next week or so. On Sunday, the flag pole should be mounted to the support structure, which will pretty much mark the end of the hardware side of things. On Monday with the help of an IT friend we are looking to get the ethernet cabling to the cameras done and get the cameras mounted. Should be up and running soon thereafter.

Regarding an app. I am not aware of any general purpose IOS or android apps that can directly access weather stations such as the one at Watts. Developing an app from scratch is beyond the capabilities and budget of myself and Watts.

However: It is possible to effectively book mark a webpage onto the homepage screens of an iPhone and presumably an android device. SO the trick is to write a series of webpages that can be bookmarked onto the homepage, along with a suitable icon to give the look and feel of a custom app. Cumulus (the interfacing software we are using) makes this customization possible.

** Nerd Alert **
For a much more detailed explanation of what's involved see http://wiki.sandaysoft.com/a/ICumulus_for_iPhone

So, after the dust has settled and the station and cameras are up and running and debugged we could have a look at that.
In the meantime, bookmarking the Weather Station pages to the Homepage would be a good alternative.

Hi James,

Looks promising and I will certainly look into that. It all depends upon whether the WeatherLinkIP upload can occur simultaneously with the Cumulus MX software Watts is using to generate all our pages. Sneaky suspicion it probably can.

Reading the WeatherLink App on iTunes, it doesn't get great reviews though there were only two reviews.

Let's get the installation completed first then tweak it.

Richard
Thanks for the work on the weather station - I can now lie in bed and see what the weather is without getting up and sticking my head out the window. Seems a bit generation Z.
Once the cameras are up I can perhaps even watch the aeroplanes fly past as well.

Getting down to the pointy end now mounting the cameras and weather station wind instruments on top of the flag pole. Many thanks to Ash Butler for his assistance with the Cat 6 cabling and termination.
Final adjustments and some tweaking of the software should see the system up and running within a day or so.

Hello Everyone,

Well the Weather Station and Airfield Weather Cameras have been fully operational for a few days now - and all is working really well.

From the outset there were two major objectives for the weather reporting system.....
* Provide in-bound pilots a means by which they can asses the conditions on and around the field &
* Allow members contemplating coming to the field whether the weather (pun intended ;) ) makes it worthwhile.

Since the cameras went up on Monday we have be lucky enough to have virtually all the weather conditions required to evaluate the system, with the exception being a full-on thunder storm. Personally, I am more than happy with the results.
